Dubai Considers Cosmetics Legislation

Officials concerned about substances that go against their religious beliefs.

Dubai is no oasis for cosmetics manufacturers. Leaders of this desert city, which has become a hotbed for development in recent years, are said to be concerned about substances which are said to pose cancer risks as well as those that go against their religious beliefs.

Redha Hassan Salman, who leads Dubai’s Public Health and Safety Department, was quoted as saying, “Manufacturers should ensure that their products do not contain dangerous metals such as mercury, zinc cyanide, lead, chrome and cadmium and preservatives that cause cancer or other problems.”
